NFTs are back, and they’re heavy on philanthropy.

What must be done to assure donors that blockchain funds are being handled properly?

A simple Google search of “NFT + philanthropy” generates millions of results today… many of which are iterative, and fail to explain the problems peppering headlines the world over.

What’s going on?

If blockchain technology is built to be transparent (and trustless), why is there so much evidence of misuse, particularly among charitable projects? And why is there relatively little evidence to the contrary – evidence in support of successful projects whose mission to drive philanthropic support has hit its mark?

Was there something in the code? (Sometimes.)

Was there something missing from the security layers, or some blatant exploit? (Often.)

Is the original promise by the project one that hinges on a third party’s intervention? One that is permitted – or REquired – TO place off-chain? (…Yes.)

Enter the “good guys”. There are now hundreds, if not hundreds of thousands, of initiatives launching to answer these questions.

One such project is Buccaneers of the Blockchain, a competitive NFT collectible/strategy game engineered by DAB, Inc. Designed and built by U.S. veterans, and officially partnered with Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Buccaneers of the Blockchain is an educational and philanthropic tool that challenges and remodels both NFT fundraising and traditional philanthropy models.

Applying core tenets of blockchain philosophy – transparency and trustlessness – to its smart contracts, the BotB team offers an example of functional design in a space fraught with… well, dysfunction. Their game leverages NFT art and technology to engage players from any community, and auto-distributes earnings and donations as a function of its design.

That is, the game itself allots transactions entirely on-chain.

Why is this significant? Donations are traced back to the players, who see in real time that their participation is impacting Disabled American Veterans directly.

Buccaneers of the Blockchain’s coined term “GiveFi” is a philanthropic model that leverages the power of blockchain technology to automate donations and support veteran communities. DAV, DAB, and Buccaneers of the Blockchain have combined a code of honor and fine art collection to promote a sense of community and impact-fulfillment, reshaping the donor/support community paradigm.

The smart contract-based system enables direct participation by donors in shaping Buccaneers of the Blockchain’s mission in support of DAV. Using this, Buccaneers of the Blockchain facilitates community-building and philanthropic systems-building to amplify a competitive donation system that rewards donors while contributing to DAV.

With its white paper, partnerships, gameplay, and premint on the immediate horizon – and a press release announcing its official partnership with DAV underway – BotB is primed for massive success and rapid adoption.
